August 2022 Newsletter
To our Advance LA Community,
We hope you are enjoying your summer! As the old saying goes, “Everything good, everything magical, happens between the months of June and August” – we agree!
The warm days and balmy evenings of summer can carry a touch of romance and many of our young adult clients talk to us about wanting to experience dating and possibly falling in love. This month’s blogpost is about helping neurodivergent young adults get started in the dating world. Asking someone out on a date can be overwhelming for many people but taking that first step can lead to romance or perhaps a good friendship.
We encourage our clients to give it a try!
Advance LA’s mission is to help our clients advance to independent adulthood. We provide virtual classes and club l.a. events that can provide an avenue for remote social engagement. Our Life Skills Coaches are able to meet with their clients remotely, or safely socially distance in person, to provide coaching in the areas of academics, social and emotional well being, executive functioning challenges and vocational education and support. Please contact us at advancela@thehelpgroup.org for more information.
Wishing you all the best,
Jeri Rochman, JD, MS
Program Coordinator
Advance LA
Some people find themselves feeling more relaxed and carefree during the summer months. Maybe the reason is the availability of fun activities such as beach trips, evening strolls to the ice cream store, barbecues, and outdoor concerts. All of these options are good ideas for casual, get-to-know-you dates for young adults. Many neurodivergent young adults want to be in the dating world but the prospect of going on a date can feel overwhelming. How to get started? Some young people feel more comfortable being set up by people they know and trust. Parents, friends, co-workers can all make suggestions for possible people to date. Other young people are open to trying dating apps. Whatever the medium, dipping a toe in the dating pool can be a fun summer adventure!
