July 2024 Newsletter

Dear Kaleidoscope Community,

July is a time to celebrate!  We honor Disability Pride Month, recognizing the incredible diversity and achievements of individuals with disabilities.  And from July 14-20, we’re also celebrating Non-Binary Week, acknowledging the dynamic culture, contributions, and strength of our non-binary community members.

As we embrace the warmth of summer and the freedom of lighter clothing, let’s also embrace body positivity. Every body is beautiful, worthy, and deserving of love.

Want to learn more about challenging the gender binary and celebrating all bodies? Dive into our latest blog post for insights and inspiration. Be sure to follow us on social media to find out where our booths will be at Pride events this summer.  We’d love to hear from you – share your experiences with us on Instagram @kaleidoscopelgbtq, and Facebook at KaleidoscopeLGBTQ.

Together, let’s uplift the voices and experiences of our community.

Wishing you a safe, joyous, and empowering summer!

Warmly,
The Kaleidoscope Team

By Jay Baldwin, Kaleidoscope Program Director

Summer has arrived, and with it come visions of playing in the ocean, unwinding by the pool, and soaking in the sun. However, as we welcome this lively season, an all-too-familiar narrative emerges. Advertisements and media bombard us with messages like, “Are you beach body ready?” and “Prepare for bikini season!” These messages insist that only certain body types are worthy of summer enjoyment, prompting many of us to feel pressured to change our bodies. For LGBTQ+ youth, these messages can be particularly challenging.
