Some autistic individuals face a unique and often misunderstood challenge known as Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA). PDA is more than just resistance to demands—it is an anxiety-driven need to remain in control, which can make everyday expectations feel overwhelming and even unbearable.
In this presentation, we will explore what PDA is, how it is deeply tied to anxiety, and most importantly, how parents, educators, and counselors can better support young people with PDA. By gaining a deeper understanding and using the right approaches, we can create environments that reduce stress, foster trust, and help individuals with PDA navigate the world in a way that works for them.
